This remarkable collection of commentaries is based on the Torah portions read publicly in synagogues throughout the world on the Sabbath and holy days. Produced by the National Council of Young Israel, one of the major synagogue movements in the world today, this collection is the result of an on-going effort by Young Israel to distribute to its constituency and to others a series of high level commentaries that can serve to educate and stimulate its audience on the threshold of the twenty-first century.

The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI), founded in 1912, serves as the coordinating agency for nearly 150 Orthodox congregations comprised of 25,000 member families throughout the United States and Canada. NCYI also serves as a resource to its sister organization in Israel, "Yisrael Hatzair-the Yong Israel Movement in Israel." As the premier Orthodox synagogue network, the goal of National Council of Young Israel is to broaden the appeal of the traditional community synagogue as the central address for Jewish communal life by providing religious, education, social, and communal programming.
