"Worlds Apart: The Mafia Daughter" follows a young woman named Tennly O'Brien, who returns home after three years away, only to find that everything in her life has changed. She is no longer close to her father, whom she blames for the reasons behind her absence. She discovers that her family leads the Irish Mafia in the United States, and now she must learn to navigate the male-dominated world of organized crime as she learns she is to become the first female Irish Mafia Boss. As she confronts these challenges, she also attempts to resolve her relationship with her childhood best friend, Conner Marks, who has developed a bad boy persona that her father despises. Tennly possesses a darker side that she knows how to harness when necessary, especially when she feels threatened or needs to protect her family. As she learns more about herself, she faces more questions and challenges, both emotionally and physically. Is she just a regular teenager, or is she a weapon for the mafia? Is she just friends with her childhood best friend, or is there something deeper? It's her journey through love and loss as it unveils a startling truth: the world of wealth she inhabits and the world of the troubled boy she loves are not as far apart as it seems, igniting her transformation from weapon to first female boss. "I've worked for this family for years, and I have heard and seen a lot. So, I'm going to give you some words of wisdom. Being a woman in this business isn't going to be easy. It is a man's world, Tennly. They will speak over you, ignore you, and try everything in their power to undermine you. If you truly want to become the first female boss, you will have to learn how to be both the weapon and the leader." - Marie
Paula Ellison Franklin was born and raised in the small city of Parkersburg, West Virginia. She married her high school sweetheart in 1991 and later decided to pursue a college education. Paula always dreamed of becoming an author, so she began writing her first book while in college. However, English was her worst subject, and she doubted her chances of success. As a result, she decided to set her writing aside to focus on her academics, ending up obtaining her Master's degree in school counseling. Fifteen years after marriage, Paula and her husband welcomed their son. However, her life took a significant turn a year and a half after her son's birth when she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 36. This diagnosis meant she could no longer participate in activities she once enjoyed with her family, such as hiking, traveling, and sports. Motivated by this change in her life and her experiences working with high school students, Paula got back to writing the book she had started while in college. Initially, she wrote just for fun, but after a devastating fall in 2019 , she decided to dedicate herself to writing full-time and finally published her first book in March 2025. Paula enjoys writing books with a darker theme, featuring characters who are often antiheroes or possess a shadowy side, which reflects questionable traits. Her stories typically have multiple plotlines that the main character is involved in, showcasing struggles they must overcome while also finding a love interest. In addition to the main character, she puts effort into developing secondary and tertiary characters as well, bringing the reader into the world she has created.
