Er ist Professor an der staatlichen Universität von Maranhão und Leiter der GEPUS (Forschungsgruppe für Geographieunterricht, städtische Armut und Segregation). Er erforscht derzeit das Wohnen in städtischen Gebieten, städtische Armut und Technologien für den Geographieunterricht.
