Autorenporträt
Die Autorin Patricia Engel studierte Restaurierung in Wien, Dresden und Warschau. Sie erwarb Magisterium und Doktorat im Fach Restaurierung und habilitierte sich anschließend in ihrem Fach. Seit über 35 Jahren arbeitet sie neben ihrer universitären Lehrtätigkeit auch praktisch als Unternehmerin. Sie restauriert Graphiken, Bücher, Urkunden, Modelle, Globen und berät Archive, graphische Sammlungen und Bibliotheken. Außerdem ist Engel allgemein beeidete gerichtlich zertifizierte Sachverständige für Papierrestaurierung. Seit 2000 hat sie sich verstärkt der Forschung zugewandt, nachdem sie den noch immer bestehenden Wissensmangel in der Schriftgut- und Graphikrestaurierung erkannt hatte. Engel hat das European Research Centre for Book and Paper Conservation-Restauration und den Verein Restauratoren ohne Grenzen gegründet, internationale Fachtagungen initiiert und organisiert. Engel ist mit ihren Forschungsergebnissen und Publikationen eine europaweit anerkannte Expertin.
