In 1896, my great grandfather, Charles M. Sheldon, wrote the book IN HIS STEPS, which challenged Christians to ask "What Would Jesus Do?" whenever facing a problem or decision. In 1896, my great grandfather, Charles M. Sheldon, wrote the book IN HIS STEPS, which challenged Christians to ask "What Would Jesus Do?" whenever facing a problem or decision. He felt this personal discipleship idea was inspired of God. That book soon sold an estimated 30 million copies in 20 languages, making it the best-selling Christian book after the Bible. Because of a faulty copyright, he made no money from this book but rejoiced that the WWJD message touched so many hearts around the world.About a hundred years later, I felt led to update IN HIS STEPS as "What Would Jesus Do? which became part of a great WWJD movement in the 1990s. Recently, I felt led to update my novel 30 years after the original as What Would Jesus Do NOW? The world has changed so much in the past 30 years that Christians face a whole new set of challenges (addiction of all kinds; mental health problems; relationship and moral issues; stress and depression). Though our online, remote age raises new problems, Jesus still provides the answers: truth; healing; peace; comfort, and love. This update of this classic story gives a few examples of people finding answers to life, and joy, through asking that simple question: "What would Jesus do in my place?" I pray it will encourage you to lead this immediate life of Faith, seek God's will for your life through the Bible, the Holy Spirit, and the church, and see the many blessings and happiness of this Godly life!
