In neonatology, pediatric radiology plays an important diagnostic role. An X-ray image is a non-invasive procedure and is generally well tolerated by young patients. Despite their high sensitivity to radiation, premature infants are X-rayed disproportionately often due to their fragile constitution-often in incubators in order to comply with the "minimal handling strategy." This book explores the advantages and, in particular, the disadvantages of this imaging method from the perspective of radiation hygiene. The focus is on the dosimetric analysis of the X-ray geometry and its re-evaluation and consideration in the context of a Monte Carlo simulation. The aim of the study is to raise awareness of radiation hygiene in accordance with the ALARA radiological principle, to provide a comparative presentation of the different radiation absorption properties of various modern incubator types, and to assess the influence on image quality in relation to free exposure.
