Yearning is the story of Starr, who was born in the early years of the twentieth century. She tells her life story to her niece Flora, who is preparing to write her thesis on the study of women in the twentieth century. Starr grew up without a mother or a father. Her mother died when she was a little girl and her father could not manage to raise her, so he sent her away to work for strangers.

Flo currently lives in Manitoba with her husband. They have one daughter and son-in-law and three grandsons. She enjoys quilting, embroidery work, baking, reading all kinds of genres, gardening, and, of course, writing. She works as a volunteer in her nearby village by baking cookies for the 55Plus organization. Along with her husband, she goes camping in the summer months where they enjoy fishing and visiting with friends and family around the campfire. Previous to writing this novel, she wrote her memoir, Country Girl. Flo retired from the Public Service at the age of 55 and has worked hard to keep herself busy and stay relevant in life. She strives every day to be the best person she can.
