Produktbeschreibung
The city of New Orleans is filled with national historic treasures and designated architectural landmarks. Lining its narrow side streets and shady avenues are houses representing a diverse heritage of architectural styles. Award-winning New Orleans architect Lloyd Vogt originally wrote New Orleans Houses: A House-Watcher's Guide to serve as a reference to the many influences on architectural style in the Crescent City, including French, Spanish, Italian, German, Caribbean, and early American. The response was so enthusiastic he created this clear and simple version for budding architects, craftsmen, and history fans to enjoy. The first part of this book covers house types commonly found across the city, including Creole cottages, American townhouses, and shotguns. The second part discusses house styles within their historical context, including the colonial, antebellum, and Victorian periods and the early twentieth century. Beautifully rendered and notated line drawings illustrate each type and style to help watchers identify every structure they encounter, and a glossary is included. Vogt, who continues his exploration of iconic styles in Historic Buildings of the French Quarter, succeeds in giving all readers the tools necessary to recognize and appreciate buildings across the diverse neighborhoods of New Orleans.
