In the last few decades, Nigeria has grappled with rising youth unemployment, a challenge that is particularly acute in the North-central region. Despite various government program and interventions aimed at creating job opportunities, the rate of youth unemployment continues to increase, leaving a large portion of young people economically ineffective and socially excluded. This situation has been strongly linked to negligence of agricultural sector, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, violent extremism and communal clashes. The North-Centrl region, where the majority of the population are agrarian and as well depends on agriculture and informal sector activities, limited access to stable employment opportunities has created fertile ground for frustration, restiveness and susceptibility of young people to recruitment into criminal and violent groups. The consequences have not only unlimited social cohesion and economic development but have threatened national security. Conversely, studies have explored unemployment and insecurity in Nigeria, there is relatively gap that particularly interrogates the dynamics of youth unemployment and it connection with insecurity in the North.
