The extraordinary true story of a man with three lives. from the proud Paras t the Army Commando who allowed him to canoe a thousand miles down the Nile. He left the Forces and went on to run a Holiday Camp to find his feet in Civvy Street. David made a success of it, which enabled him to run a five-star Luxury Resort in the English Lake District. The seeds of the rest of his life were born here as he set up his own walking Tour group specifically geared to finding those out-of-the-way spots - Torremolinos it wasn't. From the ice of Antarctica to the steamy jungles of India, from the Patagonia Steppe to the lofty Himalayas, David would lead the way, dusting each page with his wonderful humour and his remarkable memory.
Autorenporträt
David Fairs was born in Wales shortly before the outbreak of WW2 into a family with very little cash. Scrambling with difficulty through the first eighteen years of his life, he was drawn into the Army and commissioned in 1953, the year of the Coronation in Britain. Nothing stopped him from achieving his goals, first as a Paratooper with over eighty jumps to his name, then as an Army Commando, from where he took a small party to canoe down the Nile for a thousand miles. Leaving the Army training brought him out into a new life, allowing him to form a walking group Tour company which has led him all over the world. Fireside chats after dinner have led to a vast store of humour which, with his remarkable memory, fixes memorable vistas in the reader's eye. David and his wife Denise remain living in the English Lake District, still planning reunions.
