With the fall of the dictatorship, it was natural for me to devote myself to the new Constitution, abandoning every other occupation. I saw this work as a moral duty and, psychologically, as a "passion" - one that certainly justified its many costs. The anxieties and struggles I experienced for an entire year are of broader interest insofar as they shed light on aspects now forgotten or even unknown from the outset. This is also why the constitutional process of 1974-75 is so unjustifiably idealized today. Thus this book of recollections emerged-not only as a personal testimony, but also as a "corrective lesson"... Beyond its value as a highly detailed personal account of a critical historical turning point, the book also provides an opportunity for broader reflection on the drafting or revision of a Constitution-reflection that will surely become timely in the period ahead.
