Autorenporträt
Surrounded by her dogs, nature and books, Maureen Rooney enjoys her life with her person and best friend. After an adventurous life filled with 25 years of ER, trauma, and paediatric nursing, Maureen now enjoys writing and working as a mental health and school nurse on an Indigenous reserve. Maureen hopes to teach and guide youth to a better future, providing them with tools to overcome their past traumas, both lived and inherited. Writing her memoir is the first step towards sharing her own survival strength to support others struggling through the crossroads of their healing journey. In addition to Maureen sharing her story to help others, she is currently training Labradors Retrievers to become therapy dogs, helping children with PTSD, anxiety, or learning disabilities. Throughout her life, Maureen survived many nights due to the comfort of her dogs. She will tap into the natural healing energy they exude, supporting children to build self-esteem, confidence, and hope. Dogs help heal your heart. Maureen will launch her reading program, Labs for Literacy, where children will come and read to her therapy dogs. Maureen received great learnings through her experience as a new non-fiction writer; a story needed to be brought to the surface and shared to hopefully inspire, give hope, and exhibit proof that resilience and forgiveness are possible.
