Autorenporträt
The author grew up in St. Charles, Illinois, a small town about 30 miles west of Chicago. It was an unusual small town of about 3000 population in the 1930s, but with several very wealthy families, who helped the poor in the depression decade. The school system was excellent, very forward thinking, and prepared the students for college and a better life. Instead of college, the author enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific and survived several invasions. After the war he attended four colleges and majored in the wonderful world of Mathematics, especially its history. After college he taught at several high schools and became chairman of the Math Department at Oak Park and River Forest High School. He retired from Oak Park. In his retirement, he taught at North Central College, Naperville, Illinois. He has written eight books, all use Mathematics with reference to teaching, three are textbooks, and all have critical thinking material. He is also a past president of the Chicago Math Club and the School Science Mathematics Association. He now is retired in Naples, Fl.
