There is a wonderful openness in the East that celebrates community, family and shared destiny. In the West street photographers have to work hard to capture people who are openly expressing themselves in public. In the East this is the opposite. Some examples are: people going to the market early in the morning in their pajamas. Complete families going shopping together on one motorbike. Front doors open to the street exposing or showing off their living room. There is a humbleness that connects all people as powerful individuals yet part of a hive. So, I am happy to capture images that show people that have a love for Buddha, that take care of each other, that fight for their friends and family and are resilient and strong no matter the adversity and state of their finances. I am especially amazed at how people live much more sustainably than in the West. For example: most people ride motorbikes or ride bicycles from ages 5 to 100. Many people grow their own food and visit the forest to collect leaves, herbs and mushrooms. They also fish in the rice fields for small fish. There are so many examples of people in the East living a more sustainable and traditional life that people in the West can learn from, which is the aim of this book.
