Andreas had been acting very strange lately, moody, more demanding than usual. Bradley, her capable assistant, stopped her with a gesture and, with complicated sign language, finally indicated that her coral-colored cardigan was inside out. Hurriedly, with a grateful smile, Kayla turned around and entered the boss's office. "Sorry I'm late. I was supervising the Dolphin program tests," he apologized. He liked to name projects after marine species, and Andreas indulged him.
Kayla stopped abruptly when she saw she wasn't alone. Beside her, across the conference table, stood a blonde woman with straight hair tied back in a sleek bun and wearing an elegant white suit who looked her up and down.
"Is this your partner?" she asked Andreas, sounding incredulous.
"Yes," he replied, frowning. "I told you this meeting was a priority, Kayla." -Technically, my smartphone told me. You didn't do it yourself. Who was that woman, and what kind of meeting were they having? -Well, you're here now, so I guess we can get started.
the blonde intervened. His tone was authoritative, but his expression when he looked at Andreas was one of deference. "Start what?" Kayla asked as she plopped down on one of the chairs to Andreas's left, across from the stranger. -We're here to discuss how Andreas's search for a wife will affect KJ Software. Kayla's every sense was on alert. She heard the sound of breathing in the quiet office, breathed in the blonde's floral scent, which seemed out of place there, and saw her fingerprints on the glass tabletop. She wanted to wipe those fingerprints away and erase the evidence of her presence, even though she was right in front of her.
That couldn't be right, and Andreas wasn't helping at all. He sat there motionless, staring at her with a gleam of disapproval in his green eyes.
"Looking for a wife?" she repeated, incredulous. Andreas finally deigned to nod. -The time has come. -Oh yeah? Kayla hadn't noticed he was more open to a romantic relationship. And she should have, because he'd been looking for that change for six years. In fact, they'd been working longer hours than usual lately to release Delfín on time and without the slightest problem. "I've surpassed my father's net worth, so a wife and family are next on my list," Andreas said calmly.
As if that decision wasn't something monumental, the one she had been waiting for since they broke up to become partners. She then looked at the woman. Who was she? And why did she know Andreas's plans when she, a friend, knew nothing? Then a terrifying thought occurred to him. Was she a matchmaker? It would be typical of Andreas to hire someone to find him a wife. Even if he didn't need one at all. While she had been virtually chaste for the past few years, Andreas had been hopping from bed to bed, each of his girlfriends a risk to his hopes for the future. "That's what I'm here for," said the blonde, clearly delighted to have a client like Andreas. "Are you a... middleman?" Kayla asked. -I am the owner of the Patterson Group. It sounded like the name of a law firm, not a company dedicated to pursuing marital happiness. "She specializes in millionaires," Andreas chimed in, as if that were important. -You are a billionaire. At least on paper. KJ Software had been a success, just as Andreas had predicted. The company, of which he owned 95 percent, was valued at over a billion dollars. Not bad after six years of blood, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights.
