After centuries of peace, Tagonia suspects trouble maybe brewing from its neighbour, just across the sea. The emperor Marciarnous, although he would never admit it, is losing his control over his ambitious eldest son. Xantos, Ruler of Southern Mensk, has built an army far greater than that of his ageing father's in the North and is now desperate for conquest. No longer interested in peace, Xantos is unwilling to wait until he inherits the title of emperor before pushing forward with his plans.

The king of Tagonia is also nearing the end of his time but with his daughter and sole heir totally unprepared for the crown things are looking bleak. Even with no real army to speak of and nothing more than a country full of crafters and farmers, the new queen is determined not to surrender the nation without a good fight.

About the author

It's funny how the close calls in life can change a person. After undergoing a quadruple heart by-pass in 2016, my whole outlook towards the remainder of my years altered dramatically. I now wanted to add some sort of purpose to my life, leave a legacy, that sort of thing. The trouble was, not being an Albert Einstein or Leonardo da Vinci sort of person my options for changing the world were somewhat limited. Then I asked myself, Phil, why are you setting the bar so low? Instead of searching through a bunch of equations or inventing a bed sheet that would stop you from plummeting to the Earth, why not concentrate on making those around you happy. (OK, I realise jumping out of a plane with a parachute is going to make you happier than jumping without one but they knew the risks.)

From the outside, I guess I don't seem to have a lot to offer. I don't have a big house or a fancy big car or a high-paying job that funds a jet-set lifestyle. What I do have though, is a vivid imagination. My head is filled with an abundance of ideas rattling around on a daily basis, screaming loudly to be put down into stories. Stories that I hope will make my wonderful family and friends happy because they are the important ones. It genuinely makes my day when my writing brings a smile to someone's face, especially if they are a complete stranger.

"Money can't buy you happiness." is usually just a cliché thrown about by rich miserable people but I hate to admit, there is an element of truth to it. Obviously it's better to have food in your stomach and a nice warm home filled with loved ones than without. I guess happiness like many things is subjective though. I prefer to sit in the conservatory listening to the rain on the roof while watching the birdies in the garden than sitting in front of the latest widescreen TV. I find having the freedom to observe the world at a leisurely pace fuels the imagination and that to me is true happiness.
