"It's nothing serious," Squeak said, but he looked grateful as Lily carefully examined his leg. "Just a sprain. But it's slowing me down. And I need to get to the Whispering Glade."

"The Whispering Glade?" Lily echoed, intrigued. "What's that?"

Squeak lowered his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "It's where the wind carries secrets. And right now," he added, his tiny face etched with worry, "it's carrying a very troubling secret indeed."

Lily felt a shiver run down her spine. "What kind of secret?"

Squeak hesitated, then said, "It's about the missing boys."

Lily's breath caught in her throat. She had heard the whispers in the village, the worried murmurs of parents, the grim faces of the policemen. Three boys, all around her age, had vanished from the woods in the past few weeks. No one knew where they had gone, or why.

"What about the missing boys?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"The wind says they were taken," Squeak said, his eyes dark. "Taken by creatures that dwell in the shadows, creatures that crave the laughter of children."

Lily felt a surge of fear, but also a strange sense of purpose. She couldn't just stand by while other children were in danger. She had to help.

"We have to find them," she declared, her voice firming with resolve.

Squeak looked at her, surprised. "We?"

"Yes, we!" Lily said. "You can't do it alone with your leg like that. I'll help you."

Squeak studied her for a moment, then a slow smile spread across his face. "Very well, Lily," he said. "Together we shall unravel this mystery and bring those boys back home."
