As a writer, Arsenyev is widely known for his adventure books, "On the Ussuri Territory" and "Dersu Uzala", telling about his expeditions along the Ussuri taiga together with his friend and conductor, Gold (Nanai) Dersu Uzala. During the lifetime of the author, these books gained great popularity in Russia and abroad, and later even formed the basis for feature films. Among other literary works of Arsenyev are the novels "Through the Taiga" and "In the Mountains of Sikhote-Alin".
