In 1574, as the translatlantic slave trade is ravaging West Africa, Yorùbá girl, Morayo, is captured into slavery near her home in what is now Nigeria. It is the beginning of a terrifying journey: slavery in Brazil, servitude in Peru, and capture by privateer Francis Drake on his way around the world.

Can she regain her freedom? Is there any way she can get back to her home?

Inspired by the true story of a real African woman, Morayo's tale of resilience is told through her own eyes, and through those of a wide range of characters: priests and pirates, aristocrats, freed slaves and the divine trickster È¿ù. It takes the reader around the world and into the uncharted depths of the human heart.

Susan Storer Clark reads history and asks questions. She has degrees in history from King's College London and from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She had a long career as a radio and TV journalist, mostly in Washington DC. Her interest in Yoruba culture, featured in her latest novel An Uncharted World, began with a reporting trip to Nigeria for the Voice of America. She now lives near Seattle, where she writes about history, historical fiction, and other interesting things at Historymuse.us.
