This atlas is divided into six main chapters: Chapter One covers the establishment of the state, Chapter Two covers the early Abbasid era, Chapter Three covers the era of Turkish influence, Chapter Four covers the era of Buyid influence, and Chapter Five covers the era of Seljuk Turkish influence, which included the Crusader campaigns in the Islamic East and the fall of the Abbasid state at the hands of the Mongols in 656 AH. Chapter Six covers the most prominent cultural features of the Abbasid era. These chapters are supplemented with appendices to provide sources and references, and an index of the titles and chapters of this atlas.
