Tom Mackay is from Scotland and played American football during the mid 1980's until the start of the 1990's for a team based in the city of Glasgow, the Strathclyde Sheriffs. He then returned to the game in 2010 as a prospective coach with a team based in Glasgow, the Glasgow Tigers.

Since then he has coached in Scotland, Spain, Poland, Panama, and Brazil coaching with numerous teams, with numerous other coaches, and at many different levels of American football from European Division one teams to local league youth teams. As a coach he has operated on the offensive side of the ball, on the defensive side of the ball, and on special teams.
