As I've worked to document our family history, I've encountered both successes and frustrations. Some relatives I could only identify by name, with no other details about their lives. Others I knew existed but couldn't be located with phone numbers that no longer worked or addresses where they no longer lived. Many times, I felt discouraged by these gaps in our family record.
But I came to understand that capturing every detail wasn't the point. What matters is remembering our shared heritage and maintaining the connections we do have, however scattered we may be. The relatives I couldn't find are still part of our story.
Our family includes people from all walks of life - teachers, artists, engineers, healthcare workers, farmers, and more. Each of us carries forward some aspect of my father's character and determination. As I write this, I'm struck by both the size of our family and the intimacy of our bonds. Though we're separated by great distances, we remain connected through the legacy of a man who put family above all else.
To all who share our father's legacy, whether I know you or not, you matter. You are irreplaceable parts of who we are as a family. Distance may separate us, but it cannot break the ties that bind us together.
