On March 3, 1945, in a small village called Providence in the parish of St James, Jamaica. Just about twelve miles from the city of Montego-bay, William Layton Nelson was born to a happy couple, Zephaniah and Ethel Nelson. At the age of twelve, William discovered his love for poetry and songs. He has written more than seven hundred songs, poems, and devotionals. He has compiled a great number of his writings into six other books. He considers himself unworthy of this special gift and heap all praise to God. He also appreciates his parents who from an early age introduced both he and his siblings towards God's goodness. They never allow a day to go bye without having morning and evening family devotions. They were devoted Christians who taught their six children first of all to love God, to value life, to respect their fellowmen, and to live true to their family values. Even though he did not always adhere to his parents teachings, he has always strived toward that goal; Praise be to God! During the course of his life, William has learned that perfection comes only through Jesus Christ. Therefore, he has learned to keep his eyes on Christ daily. During his teenage years, William was very active with the youth at his church. Singing with and even directing the church choir. Involve with other small groups were his favorite activities. As a teen, William actively participated in the church choir. In the seventies, he was a member of the group, (The Pleiades.) Some of his lyrics were used to compile the gospel album, Thunder and Lightning, which brought spiritual ennoblement to many who listened. Although the group has ceased giving performances, there are still many fans who continue to listen to their songs. He believes that as long as his Heavenly Father gives him life, he will use it to serve Him and be of service to whom he comes in contact.
