Autorenporträt
Lisa S. Whitlock is a mother and grandmother, who resides in rural Louisa, Virginia, with her husband, Robert E. "Bubbie" Whitlock of thirty-nine years. The couple have two adult sons, Robert and Phillip, and three grandchildren. Lisa is a Registered Nurse of thirty-eight years and has worked in a variety of clinical settings. Today she is employed by Veterans Affairs in an outpatient primary care clinic in Charlottesville, Virginia. Bubbie has retired from the family business of Louisa Boat and Motor Sales and Services, after 46 years. He has been a volunteer firefighter at Louisa Company One Fire Department for the last 42 years and is currently serving as the Volunteer Fire Chief for the last 10 years. Their youngest son, Phillip, was born with a rare childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma in 1995 and spent his first 80 days at the University of Virginia Medical Center. There, Phillip underwent four surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, intubation, and special nutritional support to sustain his life. Phillip was running the race against time. He required the daily strategic collaboration of his pediatricians to anticipate the best clinical outcomes for his well-being. The power of prayer and our Great Physician, were the main ingredients that made it possible for Phillip Whitlock to be alive and well today. He is a college graduate of James Madison University. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and coaching his nephew in soccer. He has been in remission for 29 years. This book shares the day-to-day challenges that Phillip and his parents went through during his first 80 days of life. It was Whitlock's family, friends, employers, and the counties of Louisa, Orange, and Albemarle that blessed them daily with love and prayers that grounded them during this life ordeal.
