The title work of the collection acquaints the reader with Yuri Kotov, a former military man. Having received two higher educations, the hero served in a secret military unit and was engaged in the inspection of secret military facilities, but in the early 1990s his military unit disintegrated, and Yuri Petrovich retired with difficulty adapting to the new civilian life. But despite the difficulties, Yuri Petrovich steadfastly keeps all secrets, once giving a military oath to serve his homeland until the end of days. "The broken porcelain cup" was actually broken and symbolizes the broken life of the heroes of the collection, to which the author genuinely sympathizes. With other essays, the first is connected with excursions into the historical past of Russia. The rest are also artistic and documentary, and are closely connected with historical events both in Ukraine and in Russia.
