Perlentaucher-Notiz zur F.A.Z.-Rezension

Die Rezensentin Indira Gurbaxani findet es recht löblich, dass der Herausgeber es "wagt", nach einer langen Phase, in der niemand Japans wirtschaftliche Stärke anzweifeln mochte, die Frage, ob Japan globalisierungsfähig ist, überhaupt zu stellen. Die "ganzheitliche" Herangehensweise, die "Rolle Japans im Globalisierungsprozess" durch Wissenschaftler verschiedener Disziplinen untersuchen zu lassen - in dem Sammelband finden sich neben Analysen von Wirtschaftswissenschaftlern auch Beiträge aus politik- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Sicht sowie aus der Friedensforschung - führt, so Gurbaxani, allerdings zu einer "zum Teil oberflächlichen Behandlung volkswirtschaftlich wesentlicher Themen". Sie kritisiert die Haltung "Erst mal abwarten, was noch kommt", die ihrer Ansicht nach für das gesamte Buch steht und vertritt die Position, dass Japan "ohne eine gute Wirtschaftspolitik" am Ende "den Herausforderungen der Globalisierung doch nicht gewachsen" sein könne.
