Can chocolate be good and bad, bitter and sweet?
This contemporary novel tells the story of a thirty-two-year-old confirmed bachelor and chocolate heir, Beau Reynold Harrington, and a twenty-eight-year-old widowed mother and chocolate therapist, Bella Bianca Bessenger, who meet unexpectedly during a winter freeze in February in Casa de Paz, Texas, in Charis County.
Both are strangers, stranded at Harrington Hall, and both are chocolate lovers, working within their families' businesses: Beau, the head of the world-renowned Harrington Chocolate, and Bella, a chocolatier in the hometown Bessenger's Chocolate Shop. Beau, an unbeliever angry at God since the death of his twin brother, likes chocolate kisses; Bella, a believer raising her twins alone since the death of her husband, likes chocolate truffles, which she claims are decadent and divine.
Bella, wary of risking her heart, tells Beau, who's attracted to her, that they're competitors and can't be together romantically. But Beau won't be denied his Dream Girl, nor will he give up on his family without a fight. But will Beau find enough faith to trust God for his future, for his family, for his forgiveness, for his love? Will he be able to prove to Bella that he and she are better allies than adversaries, better family than foe, better together than apart? Will their chocolate season be bitter or sweet? Will their chocolate romance be decadent or divine?
