Orphaned Hannah Macdonald becomes employed at Clanmere House as housemaid. Two weeks before, valuble paintings were stolen from the library at the large estate where Hannah had taken up employment and the staff are under suspision. There she meets Jack Tyrell, who has also been recently emloyed at Clanmere. They become friends and soon become romantically involved. They seal their love on the old bridge like many before them and Jack carves their initials on the wooden bridge. Hannah and Jack are instrumental in the theft investigations and soon the culprits are caught and peace once again restored at Clanmere.
