CYPRUS: THE DIVIDED ISLAND

by Dr. Niki Karavasilis

Cyprus: The Divided Island is a compelling and deeply researched account of one of the most enduring political and human tragedies of the modern era - the division of Cyprus.

Through her clear, passionate narrative, Dr. Niki Karavasilis explores the events that led to the island's separation in 1974, when political turmoil and international intervention tore a peaceful Mediterranean nation in two. The book traces the complex historical forces that shaped the crisis - colonial rule, nationalism, Cold War politics, and ethnic tension - revealing how external powers and internal divisions left a lasting wound on the people of Cyprus.

Drawing on historical records, personal stories, and decades of observation, Dr. Karavasilis brings to life the experiences of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, ordinary citizens caught in a conflict not of their making. Her narrative exposes the suffering, displacement, and shattered families that resulted from occupation and political betrayal - yet also honors the resilience and hope of a nation that continues to seek peace and reunification.

Cyprus: The Divided Island is not only a historical chronicle but also a plea for understanding, justice, and reconciliation. It invites readers to confront the past and reflect on the moral cost of division in a world that still struggles with borders, ideology, and power.

A powerful, true account of the 1974 division of Cyprus and its lasting human and political consequences.

Dr. Niki Karavasilis explores the history, pain, and resilience of a divided nation - revealing the untold stories of ordinary people caught between global powers and the struggle for identity, justice, and peace.
