Kevin Tieman is a retired Police Detective from the Torrington Police Department in CT after having completed 25 years of service. Kevin has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Business Administration. While at the Torrington Police Department, Kevin was a Field Training Officer, an Instructor for Officers yearly recertifications, a Fatal Accident Reconstructionist, and also the Public Information Officer. Kevin routinely went into the schools and various outside agencies to teach on various topics to include, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Juvenile Law, Minimal Facts and Mandated Reporting guidelines.Kevin is an Adjunct Professor at Post University in Waterbury, CT, a retired Adjunct with Northwestern CT Community College, and was hired by Hartford Healthcare as a Child Trauma Response Coordinator with his Service Dog Dani in June of 2023Kevin assists in the coordination of the Child Abuse Investigation Team of Northwest CT (CAITNW) and a liaison to outside agencies that need assistance with this investigative process. Kevin will also be the community liaison for educational aspects of minimal facts, mandated reporting and investigative tactics for all agencies attached to CAITNW. Dani is a 3 year old Portuguese Water Dog and is an ADA compliant Service Dog for PTSD. For the majority of Kevin's career, the focus was on child sexual assault, child abuse and death investigations. Upon retiring, Dani was assigned to Kevin and they were requested to continue their work at a Child Advocacy Center in Torrington CT and begin a new program that utilizes the dog in forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, therapy sessions and family therapy. Although traditional service dogs are meant for one person, more seizure/diabetic service animals, the sharing of a service dog for PTSD with other children and adolescents, while in the company of Kevin, who have been victimized and are suffering similar, yet different traumas, is not only helping the child, but also the handler. Kevin and Dani have been asked to promote and teach their process for utilizing a PTSD Service Dog in this capacity statewide.
