Dave Elman is the hypnotherapy giant of the 20th century and a monument for everyone in the field of hypnosis and NLP. He is the pioneer of using everyday language in hypnosis and the 'demystifier' and disillusionist of secret rituals and lengthy, prolonged inductions. He is the one who stated that every client should be able to be brought into a somnambulistic state within 3 minutes and has passionately advocated for the use of Hypno-analysis, which we now know and use as the Regression technique.

This book is a translation, a summary, a modernization, and my interpretation of his book Hypnotherapy. This book is my personal interpretation of the only book written by Dave Elman. It follows the same structure as his book, with the same chapters and all of his instructions. Much has been omitted, which can be deemed no longer relevant to our time, including all client reports. The words 'patient' and 'subject' are replaced as much as possible by 'client.'

I have been involved with Hypnosis over 50 years, ever since I was 15, basically because my parents (who were members of Readers Digest) forgot to order their monthly book, upon which they received the Readers Digest 'Book of the Month' choice.

That book was about Hypnosis and how to use it in all kinds of situations, and I read it through and through, although did nothing with it in practice. It was this period in my life I read everything available at hand.

The next time Hypnosis surfaced again was during my psychology classes when I was studying at the Academy of Physical Education in The Netherlands.

My psychology professor and I had some very interesting discussions about the use of Hypnosis in the treatment of people with Phobias, Allergies, as well as many other conditions.

In 2000, I became a Reiki Master, which I primarily used to help heal family members.

Then, after a 25-year break, I finally had the time and found a practical course that taught me how to help people with problems through Hypnosis. And I proudly present my certificate on the right.

That feeling of satisfaction when I was able to help my first clients overcome their problems was truly overwhelming, and it made me decide to pursue a more relaxed career as a hypnotherapist.

My goal is to help people who suffer from mental, habitual, physical, or other problems get rid of them once and for all.

I also started the follow-up course for Master Hypnopractitioner, for which I hope to successfully graduate in January 2026.
