Democracy then disappeared almost completely from the face of the earth. The world was largely under the rule of the many empires in history for over two thousand years.

So, what had happened?

Interestingly, the earliest democracy was actually a pseudo-democracy of the class of elite in Athens.

Today, there are many different forms of democracy that all claim to be people power, with their different convoluted logic and justifications.

Much indeed has been said about how the idea of democracy and the will of the people have evolved. And there are many different views about how true democracy and the genuine will of the people can be achieved.

But there are also serious concerns that democracy can be seriously perverted, and personal freedom can be misused under various forms of democracy.

So, is democracy a mystery or a myth?

Is freedom an absolute right and concept?

In the final analysis, people have to insist that a true democracy should be one that ensures equity and justice for all; not just for the majority, or the privileged minority, or the elite, or the powerful, or the well-connected, or the establishment.
