This study focuses on the pre-1800 works of Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt. The gradual drifting apart of naturalism and historicism at the end of the 18th century had a significant impact on their hard struggle to maintain the cohesion of their scientific, philosophical and anthropological studies. In particular, the volume considers the influences on the brothers of the education they shared together and scientific developments in France.
