The latest edition includes new sections on grounded wye-delta short circuit feedback current and simulation of loop flow. The text illustrates methods that ensure the most accurate results in computational modeling for electric power distribution systems. It clearly explains the principles and mathematics behind system models and discusses the "smart grid" concept and its special benefits. Including numerous models of components and several practical examples, the chapters demonstrate how engineers can apply and customize computer programs to help them plan and operate systems. The book also covers approximation methods to help users interpret computer program results, and includes references and assignments that help users apply Mathcad and WindMil programs to put their new learning into practice.

William H. Kersting received his BSEE from New Mexico State University (NMSU), Las Cruces, NM and his MSEE from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Prior to attending graduate school, and for a year after graduate school, he was employed by El Paso Electric Company as a distribution engineer. He joined the faculty at New Mexico State University in 1962 and served as professor of electrical engineering and from 1968 the director of the Electric Utility Management Program until his retirement in 2002. He is currently a consultant for Milsoft Utility Solutions.

Professor Kersting is a life fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He received the NMSU Westhafer award for Excellence in Teaching in 1977 and the Edison Electric Institutes' Power Engineering Education award in 1979. Professor Kersting has been an active member of the IEEE Power Engineering Education Committee and the Distribution Systems Analysis Subcommittee.
