Rev. Dr. Carl L. Washington, Jr. is the beloved Pastor of the New Mount Zion Baptist Church in the Harlem community of New York. For the last 30 years, he has led the congregation to be a beacon for Christ in the Harlem community, the state of New York, and across this nation. Under Dr. Washington's charismatic leadership, The New Mount Zion Baptist Church has grown extensively numerically, financially, and most importantly, spiritually.As a powerful preacher, teacher, and author of DIVINE DIRECTIVES FOR THE DYSFUNCTIONAL CHURCH, The 7 Churches of Asia Minor, and Fit for the FIGHT Exercising Spiritual Victory Through Jesus Christ, and lecturer, Dr. Washington travels across the nation to encourage and strengthen those who seek to walk by faith in God.Through Dr. Washington's dynamic preaching method and devotion to Christian discipleship, he continues to raise the standard of pastoral leadership in the 21st century. Dr. Washington is constantly consulted by politicians from across the state of New York for his understanding of community affairs and the needs of all people.He stands strong in the fight against racism, sexism, and for civil rights. Carl L. Washington's dedication to Christian education and discipleship is made evident in his work throughout state and national conventions. For many years, Dr. Washington served as an instructor and Assistant Dean for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. He is a former President of the Congress of Christian Educationfor the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention of New York, Inc., a former President of the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention ofNew York, Inc., and the former Moderator of the United Missionary Baptist Association, and he is Chaplain for the City of Mt. Vernon Fire Department. Because God saw his faithfulness over a few things, God has elevated Dr. Washington to become a preeminent leader. He now serves as President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Congress of Christian Education. Academics also hallmark Rev. Dr. Carl L. Washington's accomplishments.He is a magna cum laude graduate of LaSalle University and agraduate of Hartford Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor ofHumane Letters from the University of Virginia at Lynchburg and aDoctor of Ministry from Eastern Theological Seminary. His greatestsuccess and satisfaction have come by proudly being the husband of hiswife Bernita, whom he affectionately calls "Nita," and the father of theirsix children, daughters Kristen, Carla, Chandle, and Caura, along withhis sons Carl III and Carson. In addition, he has three sons-in-law, onedaughter-in-law, 19 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
