I am an eleventh-generation descendant of the Rivas family of Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico. As a family historian, I have traced our lineage, traditions, and hidden Indigenous identity, work that culminates in El Señor, my first book. Rooted in family memory and research, my writing explores Catholic devotion, Otomí heritage, and the enduring power of family. Drawing from oral histories, church archives, and our family's sacred heirloom El Señor de la Ascensión, I honor my grandfather, Lorenzo Rivas Velásquez, by restoring the Indigenous voice within our mestizo family history. I live in Colorado, where I continue preserving the Rivas family legacy.
