Emotional infidelity is one of the negative effects of increased media use and content. Advancement in technology is here to stay. It can be rich and rewarding in many ways. However, many good things also have their painful aspects. Sometimes those negative or painful parts can be destructive. Emotional infidelity falls into this category of destructive patterns where communication devices such as phones, computers and social media platforms contribute to growing such practices. These are intended and unintended negative consequences of our communication devices and social media platforms. One of those is engaging in relationships that may be detrimental to our lives, homes, and Christian ministry. Sometimes when the relationships start at work, they grow through these devices and social media.
Emotional infidelity works within these devices and others discussed in this book to the detriment of homes and marriages. I have written this book from my experience with those whom I have worked with over the years. I observed that the problem of emotional infidelity is on the rise in marriages. Unfortunately, the Christian community is not left out. The individuals involved sometimes are leaders within the church. They deny that they are in affairs because it is not physical. Many are of the view that an affair has to be physical for it to be immoral, but many affairs are not physical. An emotional affair is one of them. It is more dangerous and difficult to correct because of the lack of guilt for what the individual does.

Ibidun B. Daramola (PhD), a minister with the Church of Scotland, has lived and practiced counseling from different cultures. She served for many years as Training Secretary with the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students. As a teacher, a woman leader, a counselor and a communicator, she writes from her wealth of experience both in lay and professional counselling. She is a family counsellor passionate about families, mature, singles and young people.
