THAT BROOKLYN CHRISTMAS is a heartwarming human drama set in an Irish-American neighborhood in New York during Christmas 1963, one month after President Kennedy was assassinated. Like the mourning nation, the family of fourteen-year-old Rory Maguire is in turmoil. His father, Harry, disabled from an old wound, is broke and out of work; his brother, Dermot, is joining a gang. Rory feels helpless--his dream of becoming of sportswriter seems hopelessly out of reach, as does Carol, the wealthy girl he secretly adores. Any prospect of a merry Christmas appears to be dashed when Rory is wrongly accused of stealing from his boss. But the misfortune forces Rory to summon courage he never knew he possessed. While struggling to clear his name, Rory discovers that his embittered father was actually a hero--while serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, Harry rescued the son of an influential neighborhood politician. Rory reveals his father's heroism to the local party boss, who gratefully rewards Harry for saving his son. After Rory is exonerated, he wins back Carol's affection, but his most valuable Christmas gift is making his family proud.
