After a rain-soaked, sleepless night, Jack gets the soft, wrong kind of knock: Juno Valdez, a young church soprano whose voice has been weaponized. Someone sent her a cheap recorder with a ransom track: a terrified girl asking for help, then Juno's Ave Maria laid over it to smother the pleas, followed by a filtered male voice promising "payment instructions" and warning she'll "sleep when the prayer is done." After a rain-soaked, sleepless night, Jack gets the soft, wrong kind of knock: Juno Valdez, a young church soprano whose voice has been weaponized. Someone sent her a cheap recorder with a ransom track: a terrified girl asking for help, then Juno's Ave Maria laid over it to smother the pleas, followed by a filtered male voice promising "payment instructions" and warning she'll "sleep when the prayer is done." Jack recognizes the girl under the music as Casey, his ex's fourteen-year-old daughter, whom he last heard laughing across a street and pretended not to miss.

Juno's ear catches the engineering tells: the aria ripped from St. Leon's livestream, pitch-shifted and cleaned in a dry room by someone with plugins, not a basement mic. Her suspicion lands on her conductor, Matias Kováry, a parish "maestro" who records everything, hoards stems, and hustles donors from a laptop hidden in the sacristy. At St. Leon's, Jack and Juno confront him amid vestments and hard drives; Jack digs through drawers and thumb drives to find raw tracks of Casey recorded in the church under the guise of "community coaching," plus a folder literally called RANSOM_MASTERS and a payment schedule tagged with Matias's initials. Pressed, Matias names a bigger spider: developer-patron Jasper Rheims and his nameless enforcer, men who treat open-door parish programs as a talent farm for small, scared voices. Jack pockets the evidence, orders Juno to hide, then follows Jasper toward a club called Solace-only to have Juno refuse safety and step into the rain at his elbow. They cross into the bass-thick dark together, hunting the man who turned hymns into a knife, as a fourth voice in the back booth quietly admits it's been watching, too.
