Produktbeschreibung
Lev Grigorievich Zhdanov (real name Leon Germanovich Gelman, 1864-1951) was a renowned Russian historical novelist, poet, and playwright. His books enjoyed immense popularity among readers at the turn of the 20th century thanks to their vivid language, attention to period detail, and ability to combine reliable facts with fiction. The novel "The Crowned Recluses" transports the reader to the 16th century, during the reign of Ivan IV the Terrible. The events begin in 1547, with the wedding of the young tsar and the selection of a bride from among the best boyar daughters. His chosen one is Anastasia Zakharyina-Koshkina, a kind-hearted and gentle woman. But her happiness is short-lived: she is forced to endure her husband's outbursts of anger and infidelity, becoming a recluse within the walls of her own palace. After Anastasia's death, a similar fate befell the Tsar's second wife, Kuchenya Temryukovna, who took the name Maria after her wedding. The author reveals not only the tragic fates of women at court, but also the psychological drama of Ivan himself, whose power and passions destroy everything he holds dear. Zhdanov creates an emotionally charged historical novel that combines realism, subtle psychology, and historical accuracy. "The Crowned Recluses" is a story about the women who stood by the Tsar and became unwitting victims of his love and power.
