Essays and Prefaces offers a wide range of diverse topics: British and American English, Tony Blair's war on Iraq, Zionism v. Judaism, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Orwell, Nietzsche, Bertrand Russell, Christianity and the Hebrew Bible, Anti- Semitism, Hamas, Gaza and the West Bank, the ICC and the ICJ rulings, Shakespeare, Hamlet, Caliban, Shylock, and Elijah - among many other topics. Also included are two memoir essays, one on the author's life and plights in Israel, and his association with a loose group of immigrant friends, mostly in the 1950's and early 1960's. The other is on the author's struggles as a student in London from 1963 to 1968. The prefaces and back-cover texts are reprinted from already published novels and plays. Those dealing with Shakespeare, offer a discussion of his plays and of the author's own versions.
