Jim E. Martin gives insightful, honest narrative about an adaptable man in circumstances most of us shy away from even imagining. Great storytelling and a great story. -Dr. Kelly Jennings, Author of multiple novels and short stories, Recently published in Clarkesworld I know Jim. Jim is my friend. But now he is also my hero after reading "From A Slightly Lower Point Of View." Not just uplifting, but honest. -Darren Minor, Radio Personality and Podcaster Jim E. Martin's book is a charismatic and honest story that describes the trials and triumphs-that he humbly refers to as adaptations- of his life as he knows it. Jim's recount of events that have led him to where he is now and how he has no choice but to persevere proves that anyone can overcome even the biggest hurdles, especially with a little help from his friends and family... and music. -Brooke Gray, DNP The volume written by this remarkable and gifted quadriplegic author is a testament to the human spirit and the power of storytelling. I have worked in the medical eld for over forty- ve years and I can endorse this book as a remarkable achievement, not only for its eloquent prose but also for the resilience it represents. It demonstrates a rare balance of literary skill and personal courage o ering readers a rare window into life after a devastating spinal cord injury. This book is more than a powerful story-it's proof of what determination and talent can achieve. It showcases not only sharp writing and a gift for storytelling, but also an unshakable spirit that challenges readers to rethink their own limits. His words carry the weight of lived experience, yet they're delivered with clarity, courage, and even humor. What makes this work stand out is how it does not ask for sympathy, but rather o ers perspective, strength, and encouragement to anyone facing obstacles. Encouragement is extended to others, showing that adversity does not silence creativity, but can sharpen it. What strikes me most in this book is how the author turns his challenges into encouragement for others, showing that strength isn't about what you can do physically, but how you choose to keep going. The author doesn't shy away from the di culties, but instead turns them into resilience and hope. His courage in facing ongoing medical challenges while still nding the strength to write with such clarity and heart, is nothing short of inspiring. This isn't just a story of survival; it's a guide on how to keep moving forward when life changes in ways you never expect. I wholeheartedly recommend this book, both for its literary merit and for the inspiration it leaves long after the nal page. -Timbi West, APRN, FNP-BC

Autorenporträt
I am a C-5 quadriplegic, paralyzed with no movement or sensation from my chest to my toes, only partial use of my arms, and no voluntary movement in my hands and ngers. I eat with a brace, drink through a straw, type with a stick strapped to my right hand, and pee through a rubber tube. I'm happy and sad, sick and well, strong and weak, and-of course-I'm in denial. When asked my ultimate goal regarding this volume, I didn't even have to think about my answer. "I want something I can leave behind for my nieces, proof that I once lived on this earth, and that I might have actually meant something to somebody while I was here."
