He holds a B.S. in Biology (Terrestrial Ecology) from the University of WisconsinStevens Point, an AA in Architectural Technology from Minneapolis Technical College, and an M.A. in City Planning from Minnesota State University, Mankato. At Mankato, he pioneered the concept of the "electronic charrette," an early form of online community engagement.

William launched Planetshifter.com on Earth Day 2009, a platform for exploring sustainability through art, poetry, and multimedia storytelling. His work draws from the Permaculture and Transition Town movements, blending myth, sound, and regenerative design. He has published poetry collections like "remembering Earth", "The Bag", and "Dark", and produced over 200 sonic videos on his YouTube channel NewMythologist.

He is also the creator of willipaulstudio.com, where he shares his animations for children and develops ideas around regenerative storytelling. His work includes podcasts, music on SoundCloud (The Chaos Era), and the "Circular Economy TV Show" pilot.

Currently, William contributes to the Resilient Communities Project as a consultant, helping shape vision, design, and community tools. His writings explore topics such as permaculture systems and sustainability in the age of AI.
