Maria Lagutina is Professor of the World Politics Department at St. Petersburg State University, Russia.  Giovanni Barbieri is a Research Fellow at CRANEC (Research Center in Economic Analysis and International Economic Development) at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italia.
