Ronald M. James was the executive director of the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture and served as state historic preservation officer for three decades. His publications include The Roar and the Silence: A History of Virginia City and the Comstock Lode and A Short History of Virginia City . Robert E. Stewart is an independent historian who was chief of public affairs for the Bureau of Land Management. He is the author of Aurora: Nevada’s Ghost City of the Dawn.
