Human Organs-on-Chip: Novel Organ-on-a-Chip Techniques in Medicine paves the way for novel approaches that push forward in-vitro and in-vivo studies and fills a gap between laboratory and clinical use. These experienced authors share the knowledge they've developed with over a decade of experience and research with organ-on-chips and multi-organ-on-chips. This book collects all of the developments in the field and sheds new light on possibilities to develop human on-chip measurement methods with the utilization of currently available measurement techniques including both invasive and non-invasive tests. Human Organs-on-Chip: Novel Organ-on-a-Chip Techniques in Medicine serves as a starting point for young researchers who are beginning their scientific journeys. - Provides an overview of the progress suborgan-on-chips development has made in recent years - Introduces the fundamentals needed to understand lab-on-chip ideas with references and in-depth explanations - Presents commercial achievements obtained and future perspectives

Autorenporträt
In 2011, Prof. Javier Ramón-Azcón was hired by the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) at Tohoku University (Japan) as Assistant Researcher to develop new biomaterials with engineered tissue. After two years, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in AIMR, leading a research group focused on integrating biosensor technology with stem cell, biomaterials, and tissue engineering. In 2017, he became Junior Group Leader at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) after obtaining the prestigious ERC- Starting Grant. In 2020, he was appointed Professor by the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA) and Senior Group Leader based on their successful and promising scientific trajectory. From 2017 and 2020, he has attracted more than EUR3.5M in competitive funding, including the coordination of a FET-Open project. Currently, he is supervising five postdocs, for Ph.D. students, and three MSC studentsArtur Rydosz received his degrees in electronics engineering from the AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland. In 2019 he obtained D.Sc. degree and since 2023 is a full professor at the Institute of Electronics AGH. His current research interests include gas sensors and organ-on-a-chip platforms. He's also interested in the PVD method of the fabrication of various sensing materials with a special emphasis on the detection of volatile organic compounds in exhaled human breath, for example, as a potential tool for the noninvasive measurement of several diseases, such as diabetes; as well as metallic layers for SPR-based sensors for gas-sensing and bio-sensing applications. Prof. Rydosz serves as the Vice-Chair of the Joint Chapter AP03/AES10/MTT17, IEEE Poland Section and is the Head of the Biomarkers Analysis LAB. In 2022, his book entitled Diabetes Without Needles (Elsevier) was published.
