Years later, despite his recent success as a musician, Naoyuki still senses a debilitating self-hate from within himself. When his father-fresh from prison-appears at his doorstep, Naoyuki is offered an opportunity for atonement. And so, Orpheus braves the underworld for his revenge.

Autorenporträt

MALAIKA W. KAMAU was born in 2006 in Lusaka, Zambia, but was a perpetual nomad throughout her childhood and adolescence as part and parcel of being an army brat. Exhaustive road trips across the Midwest and transatlantic flights gave the young girl ample time to foster her imagination. Spurred on by a writing assignment, she had penned her first short story in the third grade, letting loose the spate of creativity which was waiting to burst.

Continuing to hone her craft through elementary, middle, and high school, today Kamau manages her coursework while moonlighting as an aspiring author and filmmaker. She's currently working on an X-Men-inspired cyberpunk trilogy.

If Orpheus Was a Carp is her debut novel.
