Tony Germanotta has spent 30 years living in, and writing about, Hampton Roads as an award-winning reporter and editor for The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star newspapers. He has paddled the local waterways and sailed its bays, accompanied Coast Guard rescue missions and catapulted off aircraft carriers. He even backseated with the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy's Blue Angels as they tried their best to turn him inside out practicing for air shows over Virginia Beach. A passion for the quirky led him to explore the joys of living in a lighthouse, took him to honkey tonks and concert halls, and lured him behind the scenes at the area's many historic attractions. He's covered presidential elections and Royal visits, epic trials and everyday struggles. Pilot editor Denis Finley once said Tony not only knew where the bodies were buried but "who dug the holes and where they bought the shovels."
