Produktbeschreibung
Jane Bennet arrived in Australia as a small child, but now knows and loves the bush.
Her father manages a pub in the small bush town of Kurrajong, while her mother continually complains about her role as the hotel cook. Her sister Elizabeth is married and living on a local station, and her younger sisters are still school girls.

Jane is the hotel housekeeper. She would prefer to live in the bush, perhaps as a station governess, but at the moment she is supporting her parents. Then her father's sudden death changes everything.
Jane, her mother, and her younger sisters move to the nearest city. They are all delighted by the change. Only Jane misses her beloved bush.
George Wickham seeks out Jane, trying to restart a previous failed relationship. Mary introduces Charles Bingley, a new arrival from England, into the family. George lives his life in the bush; Charles is afraid of it.
Which man will Jane choose? Will she have a 'happy ever after'?

Autorenporträt
Barbara was born in a small Australian town in 1942, educated for 9 years in a one-roomed school with all grades taught by a single teacher. She then left home at 14, to spend 4 years in a girls' boarding school, followed by 8 years at Universities. After marrying and raising 2 daughters, she taught in high schools, universities and adult education for 20 years. She is now widowed and has a teenage grandson.

She has been writing stories ever since childhood, her chief influences are Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and Ngaio Marsh. Her adult stories are mostly gentle romances. She also writes specifically about Australia: a memoir of growing up on a farm in the 1950s, and cosy mysteries set in scattered sites across Australia, all of which she has visited and knows well.
