Autorenporträt
Stephen Marlowe, born on August 7, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, was an American author known for his works in science fiction, mystery, and historical fiction. His literary career spanned several genres, but he is perhaps most famous for creating the detective character Chester Drum, first introduced in the 1955 novel The Second Longest Night. Marlowe also wrote fictional autobiographies of iconic figures such as Goya, Christopher Columbus, Miguel de Cervantes, and Edgar Allan Poe. His skill in blending historical fact with fiction earned him recognition in both literary and genre fiction circles. Throughout his career, Marlowe demonstrated a remarkable versatility, ranging from science fiction stories like The Graveyard of Space to historical novels, including The Memoirs of Christopher Columbus (1987) and The Lighthouse at the End of the World (1995). Marlowe's writing is marked by its exploration of human nature, the complexities of history, and the mysteries of the universe. He passed away on February 22, 2008, at the age of 79 in Williamsburg, Virginia. His works continue to influence the genres he contributed to and remain a part of the literary canon for readers interested in both speculative fiction and historical narrative.
